The University of Washington is considered a global leader in sustainability policies and practices. The conference venue, the University of Washington Husky Union Building, has recently undergone a complete remodel and expansion which received a Gold level Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification, thus the conference's environmental impact will be limited by the building's design for water efficiency, energy efficiency, and indoor environmental quality.

Conference Consumables and Waste Management
In hosting our conference on campus we will be utilizing existing partnerships with catering and composting companies that focus on sustainable, locally sourced food and eco-conscious waste management. All cups, straws, and food containers will be biodegradable and compostable.

Lunches and refreshments will be provided by Bay Laurel Catering, which sources ingredients from local suppliers that follow sustainable practices in growing and production and that are pesticide and hormone free. Delivery vehicles are biodiesel fueled, all detergents, dishwashing liquids, and other cleaning chemicals are eco-friendly.

Refillable Water Stations
There are multiple water bottle refilling stations on each floor of the conference venue. We are providing BPA-free reusable water bottles as part of our initiative to eliminate disposable water bottle waste product. Please see the conference venue maps in this program to locate these filling stations.
