The public is invited to attend a public lecture by Dr. Andres Lozano from the University of Toronto. His presentation will be, “The Brain on Circuit Training: Finding and Fixing Misfiring Neural Circuitry" an illuminating talk on deep brain stimulation, which is being used to help treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders. Afterwards, he will discuss his work with science educator and author David Heil, fielding questions from the audience.

  • Up to 60,000 new cases of Parkinson’s disease are diagnosed each year in the U.S., adding to the one million Americans currently living with the disease.

  • 100,000 people around the world have received deep brain stimulation to date.
  •     
  • Globally, there are 35.6 million people with dementia, with 7.7 million new cases every year. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia.

Dr. Andres Lozano sees potential benefits of this technology for people who suffer from depression, Alzheimer’s disease, obesity and more.
