The 2009 Puget Sound Georgia Basin Ecosystem Conference was a resounding success.  1,179 scientists, decision-makers, planners, non-profit representatives and students came together in Seattle February 8-11, 2009, to share knowledge and commit to action for the protection and restoration of the Salish Sea.  The conference featured strong Coast Salish First Nations and Tribal representation, as well as significant participation from both sides of the Canada/United States border.

The 43 concurrent sessions focused on the themes of climate change, ecosystem management, land use, and water resources. Four plenary sessions focused on ecosystem-based management, the health of the Salish Sea, traditional ecological knowledge and a response to the conference Call to Action held as a traditional Coast Salish witnessing ceremony. 

Three outstanding evening events captured the essence of protecting and restoring the vital Salish Sea - a reception at the Seattle Aquarium, a poster gala featuring 156 incredible conference posters, and an artists' reception and film festival that showcased the work of regional artists and filmmakers, many who attended the event.  Look for another screening of the much-acclaimed film "March Point" during Aboriginal Awareness week at Environment Canada!  Also on display at the artists' reception were colourful children's posters made by grades 4-7 students depicting "What I love about the ocean."
