The Proceedings will also include the Conference Call to Action, shared during the Closing Plenary, and a list of the specific calls to action that were documented during the concurrent sessions. Accepted Proceedings Formats

All authors who presented at the 2009 PSGB Conference (poster or oral presentations) are encouraged to prepare a manuscript for the Proceedings. Authors who do not wish to submit a manuscript may provide an “extended abstract” (abbreviated manuscript) that includes citations and accompanying references to other publications where information is presented more completely. PowerPoint presentations may be included in place of a manuscript or extended abstract or appended to the manuscript or extended abstract (see Submission Guidelines below). If no manuscript, extended abstract or PowerPoint presentation is submitted, no entry will be included in the Conference Proceedings.

Proceedings Preparation Guidelines

Please prepare and send:

PDF (Adobe Acrobat Portable Document File) of manuscript or extended abstract *

OR

PowerPoint presentation - .ppt file (or inform us that you wish us to include the .ppt file we collected at the conference)**

*NOTE : If you would like to include your PowerPoint presentation with your manuscript, please append it to your PDF file and submit the one file.

If a manuscript and a PowerPoint presentation are sent as two separate files, we will only publish the PDF file.

** If you will cannot prepare a manuscript, but wish us to include your PowerPoint presentation file, please send an email informing us that you wish us to use the PowerPoint file you submitted at the conference.

Formatting Notes

■ Margins: Use 1 inch margins on all sides (top, bottom, right, left)

■ Bold title, headings and subheadings.

■ Italicize Latin/scientific names (Genus species) and terms, e.g.:

             Oncorhynchus kisutch or in situ

■ Do not indent text. All text, headings and subheadings flush left.

■ Table/Figures/Photographs: Embed all photographs, equations and graphics in the document.

Permissions: Be sure that you have permission to use all graphics in your manuscript if someone other than you or a co-author created the work.

Color
The Proceedings will be published on the web. Color graphics and photographs are acceptable, but we recommend using high-contrast graphics as readers often prefer to print out and read a black and white version.

References and Citations
Include bibliographic references at the end of the text — using the name and year system — in alphabetical order by the first author’s last name. When two or more works by the same author are included, list the earliest publication first. For more details about how to prepare references, see How to Write and Publish a Scientific Paper by Robert A. Day (3rd Edition, 1988, Oryx Press).

Examples of citations:
Chapter from a book:
Giammona, C.P, 1988, Sea surveys, In: Finkl, C.W, Jnr. (ed.), The Encyclopedia of Field and General Geology, Van Nostrand Reinhold, New York, pp.747-764.

Journal article:
Green, D. H., and M. E. Wallace, 1998, Mantle metasomatism by ephemeral carbonatite melts, Nature, 336:459-462.

Book:
Kundu, PK, 1990, Fluid Dynamics, Academic, New York, 638pp.

Citation within the main text should include the author’s last name and year of publication, with multiple citations separated by a semi-colon, in parentheses, as in this example: (Baker 1988) or (Baker 1988; Ransom 1992). For two authors, list both names in the citation (Baker and Ransom 1992); for more than two authors, list the primary author only (Ransom et al. 1993).

Manuscript Corrections
We cannot guarantee that late corrections to manuscripts can be accepted. If you must make correction(s) to your manuscript after submission, please email your correction to psgb@u.washington.edu.

Images of Posters
Poster presenters may submit an image file (prefer .pdf format, 5 mb maximum file size) to be included with the conference proceedings. This file may be submitted in addition to or in place of a manuscript, PowerPoint presentation, or extended abstract.

An appendix listing the names of all contributors will be included with the proceedings. In a separate file (saved as a word doc, rtf or text file), please include the following information:
