The 2009 Puget Sound Georgia Basin (PSGB) Ecosystem Conference is the premier regional gathering focused on the transboundary Georgia Basin Puget Sound region. The conference serves as a dynamic forum for scientists, policy-makers, educators, and citizen groups to share successes and collaborate on challenges facing the region.
This 9th biennial Conference – which focuses on moving from priorities to actions – builds upon the successes and lessons learned from previous conferences. This conference supports significant transboundary and cross-sector work underway in the PSGB ecosystem.
The 2009 conference theme is:
The Future of the Salish Sea: A Call to Action
Attendance has increased with each conference, with over 900 participants at the 2007 event. Participants include scientists, Coast Salish Tribes and Nations, resource managers, community leaders, policymakers, educators and students. The conference provides an avenue for exploring agency priorities, key transboundary initiatives, and information about the condition and management of Salish Sea region. In addition, there are exciting opportunities for “outside the box” collaborations. The 2007 conference featured an environmental film festival, a locally relevant art exhibit, a Coast Salish dinner, and a tour of Vancouver’s green roofs.
In 2009, we hope to offer even more informative and innovative opportunities and attract an even larger number of participants. A successful conference will only be possible with the continued generous support of our Conference Supporters – agencies, businesses, educational institutions, foundations, and individual donors. Funding from Conference Supporters is essential to ensure a high-quality event and carry on the important tradition of the Puget Sound Georgia Basin Ecosystem Conference.
