Oral Session Presenters

Presentations are limited to 20 minutes total;15 minutes for the formal presentation and 5 minutes for questions and discussion.

Please plan on arriving in your session room fifteen minutes before the session start time.
Have your electronic file on a USB flash drive (preferred) or a CD and plan on loading your presentation onto the dedicated computer in your session room.

AV Equipment in Presentation Rooms

Each presentation room will be equipped with the following:

  • Computer
  • Data projector
  • Screen
  • Microphone
  • Remote changer with laser pointer

Preparing an Effective Oral Presentation

An oral presentation is intended to be a summary of research. In 20 minutes, it is not possible to convey all the details of a research project. These details should be reserved for documentation in a written paper. Each oral presentation should elicit an appreciation of the research efforts and provide value and context to the existing literature. The goal of the presentation should be to summarize your topic.

Use well-prepared audio/visual aids (A/V’s)

Only Microsoft® PowerPoint presentations will be accepted for oral presentations.  A sound system and laptop computer will be provided.  Type should be large, clear, readable and simple.  It is best to include no more than three points per slide. Everyone in the audience should be able to clearly view the projected material.

Practice the presentation

Being well-prepared takes practice and will assure that the presentation will maintain the interest of the audience.

Stay on time

All presentations will be allotted 15 minutes for a formal presentation and 5 minutes for questions and discussion. The moderators will maintain these time limits rigorously to assure that no one cuts into anyone else’s allotted time.

We expect almost 300 scientists and professionals at the symposium. Their time is valuable, as is yours. Please spend this time wisely by seeking to educate, entertain, elucidate and enlighten the audience. Above all, be prepared to maintain their attention and interest.


Poster Presenters

The poster session and hosted reception is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 5:15-7:00 PM. Please plan to be by your poster during most of this time.

Set-up Time

The posters will be located in the Pavillion luncheon and general session room. Each poster will be assigned a specific poster board. A list of posters and the board assignments will be provided to you at the symposium. You may set up your poster any time on Tuesday morning or during the morning break at 10:15 a.m. It is important that all posters are in place by the end of the afternoon break at 3:00 PM.

Each poster presenter will be assigned a posterboard. Boards will be numbered and you will be able to locate your board. The poster boards are 4 feet high by 8 feet wide and are on stands. The “usable” surface area of each poster board is 3′ 9″ high by 7′ 7″ wide (91″ by 45″). Please plan that your poster does not exceed this size. Push pins and velcro will be available in the poster area to use for mounting your poster on your board.

You may leave your poster up until the end of the afternoon break on Wednesday at 2:40 PM.
