ClicKit! To Reduce Television in Early Childhood
Investigators
Acacia Larson, Donna Johnson
Project Dates
7/03-6/05
Project Summary
ClicKit! evaluated the impact of an intervention to reduce television viewing and increase physical activity levels among families of low-income preschool children. Tool kits were developed and distributed to 100 Washington State Early Childhood Education and Assistance Programs (ECEAPS). Early childhood educators were encouraged to promote healthy television and physical activity behaviors to children and families, develop and implement policies that promote reduction in sedentary behaviors, and offer opportunities for physical activity, and minimal incentives for sedentary behaviors. Centers reporting no TV reduction activities decreased from 67% at baseline to 20% at follow-up. Families from intervention programs also reported greater decreases in hours of TV viewing time than families from control programs.
