Program Alumni


(The following numbers need updating:) Among the program's 101 graduates, 56% are in full time academic positions, 10% are in government, and the remainder are in diverse careers in community clinic organizations, health administration, clinical pract ice, and private consulting. Alumni have now assumed positions of leadership in medical schools and hospitals, with three department chairs, three hospital medical directors, three associate or assistant deans, and at least 33 directors of sections, cen ters, clinics, or training programs. Many are now senior faculty, including 12 professors (one endowed chair) and 12 associate professors. Government agencies served by alumni include the Indian Health Service, CDC, AHCPR, USAID (State Department), and county health departments. Nine alumni hold full or part-time VA positions, and another five have VA attending or consulting responsibilities.

Overall, 61% of graduates and current Scholars have come from the primary care specialties of General Internal Medicine (40%), Pediatrics (12%), and Family Medicine (9%). An additional 17% have come from sub-specialties of Internal Medicine, with a ma jority of those in Geriatrics and Occupational Medicine. An additional 9% are from Psychiatry and 7% from Obstetrics and Gynecology. Three graduates are from Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, two are from Neurology, and one from Emergency Medicine.< /P>

The following table shows the broad geographic dispersion of program graduates, with a small number overseas in government and teaching positions.
