The MFA/Faculty Dance Concert, highlights a re-staging of faculty member Jennifer Salk’s solo To Be Continued (2000); and new dances and collaborative works by MFA candidates Catherine Cabeen, Louise Gervais, Jamie Hall, Matthew Henley, Elizabeth Lentz and Tonya Lockyer, working in partnership with artists and students from through-out the UW community.

What happens when you combine Nijinsky’s Le Sacre de Printemps with Kurt Cobain? Tonya Lockyer and dancers ‘re-vision’ one of the Ballet Russes’ most notorious productions (and the more than two hundred reinterpretations) with Seattle composer and UW Dance Music Director Paul Moore. Catherine Cabeen pushes her dancers physical virtuosity with an original trip-hop score also by Moore and sculptural costumes by Fiber Arts graduate student Bo Choi that literally connect the dancers to one another. The Nobles of Versailles, by Louis Gervais, brings to life the nobles who were required, often unwillingly, to dance for King Louis XIV of France. Elizabeth Lentz’s Let's just laugh is a light-hearted romp, filled with giggles, snickers, belly chortles, sweeping movement, and step-by-step instructions on how to laugh inspired by e.e. cummings. Jennifer Salk’s, reconstruction of her solo To Be Continued (2000) for dancer Devin McDermott is noted for it’s expressive athleticism, and finds McDermott struggling for physical and emotional equilibrium on a queen-size bed. Rounding out the evening, Jaime Hall and Matt Henley create hypnotic works investigating the web of creation, death, ritual and community.

The UW MFA artists bring from beyond the University of Washington campus rich professional histories dancing with companies such as Momix, Bill T. Jones, The Martha Graham Company, Lar Lubovitch, Marie Chouinard, Donald Byrd, Chicago Moving Company, Sean Curran and in the case of Cabeen, Gervais and Lockyer national careers as choreographers. Composer Paul Moore is also recognized as the composer for the films “Zoo” and “Police Beat.
