PERFORMING ARTS LIBRARY CHALLENGE ENDOWMENT

The Wagner Dance Challenge Fund

Betty L. Wagner, Architecture and Urban Planning Librarian, recently established the Wagner Dance Challenge Fund to create an endowment for dance library materials. Ms. Wagner graduated from the UW School of Librarianship in June 1951, and was immediately appointed head of the UW Architecture Library. Her lifelong commitment to libraries, particularly those associated with the arts, fueled her decision to establish a special University Libraries endowment called the Performing Arts Library Challenge Endowment.

In establishing this special challenge fund, Betty wants to encourage the growth of three new endowments for the Libraries. These new endowments will focus on dance, drama and music and will come from other donor contributions to the original challenge endowment. It is Betty’s intention that when the original fund has received sufficient donations directed to one of these three areas, a new endowment will be launched. In this way, Betty wishes to inspire others who share her belief in the importance of libraries and learning to give.

Former dance majors and those interested in dance are encouraged to contribute to the Wagner Dance Challenge Fund’s attempt to build an endowment for purchasing of dance films and books. Checks may be sent to University of Washington Libraries, Office of Development, 482 Allen Library, Box 352900, Seattle, WA 98195-2900. Checks should be made to University of Washington Foundation; please specify the money goes to the Wagner Dance Challenge Fund.
