Alan Pietsch (M.F.A. 1993) has this to say about his Dance degree: “Our arts school, the Atascadero Fine Arts Academy, is going incredibly well . . . this is truly my legacy—it was providence that guided me to this school. I have worked and suffered more with this school than I have for anything else in my life—but it will be worth it if it survives after me. I got pink-slipped last year (which means they were going to lay me off to balance their budget) but the administration wound up revoking my pink slip on the basis of my ability to teach dance and that I had a Master’s degree in Dance. For once, having a Dance degree saved someone’s job!! Post that on the wall in the Dance Department!! They need a qualified dance teacher with a credential and they are few and far between.”

Teresa White (B.A. 2002) is teaching history, dance, and dance history at Oakland School for the Arts, a public high school in Oakland, CA.
