Diabetes causes too much sugar in the blood. It can lead to blindness, amputations, kidney failure and heart attacks. Diabetes affects people of all backgrounds, but is more common in overweight and older people, and in certain ethnic groups, including:

What is the Diabetes Prevention Program?

The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a nationwide research study looking at ways people like you can avoid getting diabetes. The study is sponsored by the Federal government's National Institutes of Health.

Right now there is no cure for diabetes. But doctors believe that diabetes may be avoided by eating healthy food, exercising more, or taking pills. We are looking for volunteers to help find out if this is true.


Who can join?

Men and women age 25 or older who are likely to get diabetes.
