Faculty & Staff Issues

LAN Access

The School of Drama has a repository of files referred to as the LAN (Local Area Network) that each PC* user with a login is automatically connected to. After login, each user should be able to access the LAN by a single right-click on the START button, then a single  right-click on “My Computer” or “Computer” link. The "P" Drive, named "Drama Data", contains all Drama files and folders. (Many student-access computers are not connected to the domain and therefore do not have access to the LAN)

* Apple computers cannot access this area due to limitations set by the College of Arts & Sciences Computing.

Individual User Folders

Each user has a “home” folder created upon first login to the network. This folder should be mapped automatically and can be accessed from any departmental computer.

Computer Use

Rules regulating the proper use of UW computers can be found at the following sites:

General use of UW Computers www.washington.edu/computing/rules/
Ethical use of UW computers www.washington.edu/computing/rules/ethics.html

If you have any questions as to the legality or ethics of what you are doing, please check these pages or ask the Computer Specialist to assist in determining who to ask.  It is your responsibility to follow the rules, so be familiar with them!

Email

Email is supported through UW Technology (formerly Computing and Communications). For supported email, contact UW Technology or see www.washington.edu/computing/email/. Users preferring to utilize non-supported email programs (such as Outlook) will not have direct computer support through either the Department Computing Staff or UW Technology.

School of Drama Web Site

The School of Drama has a departmental web site at drama.washington.edu.

Class Web sites

Instructors may choose to create a web site for individual classes, either by using Catalyst Tools or third- party web authoring software.  If you do create a web page for a class, please email the URL to dramaweb@u.washington.edu so that a link to the class site can be posted on the UW Drama site.

Additional Sites

Additional Sites for the School of Drama may be set up for specific topics but will need to be approved prior to setup by the SOD webmaster.  Email dramaweb@u.washington.edu to obtain this permission.
