Elizabeth Bonjean teaches theatre history, critical theory, and performance studies and is faculty supervisor for B.A. student internships. She received her Ph.D. in Theatre History, Theory, and Criticism from the University of Washington, and her B.A. and M.A. in Drama from San Francisco State University. Elizabeth's research focuses on memory, grief, and national identity alongside theatre and cultural performances created in the aftermath of violence and war. Recent book essays exploring these subjects can be seen in Ethnicity and Identity; The Wire: Urban Decay and American Television;and in a forthcoming collection on violence, trauma, and the aesthetics of beauty, where she writes about depictions of female U.S. soldiers returning from the Iraq war in plays by American women. Elizabeth has worked as an actor and director, and served as a development associate and consultant with the Mark Taper Forum/Ahmanson Theatre. In addition to the University of Washington, Elizabeth has taught at the University of Texas at Austin and Grinnell College.
