Upcoming Events
The Dream Project holds multiple events throughout the year. While Dream Scholars are encouraged to attend all events, participation in the Spring BBQ, Scholarship Workshop, Admissions Weekend, and FAFSA Night is essential.
FAFSA Night
January TBA, 2010
The Dream Project brings UW financial aid officers to its partner high schools to hold info sessions on the financial aid application process. Parents are highly encouraged to come, and students are welcome as well. The FAFSA application process can be very confusing, and this is a prime opportunity for parents to have their questions answered and to have fears put to rest.
Spring BBQ
May TBA, 2010
The first event Dream Project holds with its juniors, the Spring BBQ happens on a Friday in May. Juniors from all 8 of the Dream Project's parner high schools take a field trip down to the University of Washington campus for a day. Students receive a tour of the campus from a Dream Team member and have a chance to visit a class and listen to a real college lecture. For many of our students, this will be the first time they have been on a college campus. It can go a long way to helping students envision themselves as a college student.
"Live The Dream" Scholarship Presentation
May TBA, 2010
The Scholarship Event is a celebration of the year's worth of effort the senior Dream Scholars have put in with the Dream Project. UW-bound students selected from each of the Dream Project partner high schools receive $1000 scholarships and are honored in a ceremony that has in the past included UW President Mark Emmert and Dean Ed Taylor, among others.
Admissions Weekend
November TBA, 2010
The biggest and most important event Dream Project holds. The Dream Project invites college admissions counselors, writing tutors, and its own mentors to campus for one intensive weekend. Students can come at any point in the college application process and receive assistance. Some students have arrived with nothing and left with a completed college application. All of the students in the Dream Project and its partner programs are expected to come. More details on the event can be found here.
