What people are saying
The new UW home page has been live for two full weekdays now, and about 200 of you have taken the time to share your thoughts. Some of you love it, some hate it. We've read every word you've shared -- or YELLED. And we have already made some adjustments in response. More on that in an upcoming post. But first... we thought we'd share a few choice quotes:
↑ I love our new homepage. Clean, dynamic, something we can all be proud of.
↓ The new website is pretty ugly. ... Don't try to be so modern and fancy.
↑ I really like the new look. It is unlike other websites I've seen so it's great to have UW out in the forefront.
↓ It sucks BIG TIME!
↑ Really a big improvement on the previous setup.
↓ Did you have to take a nice, mostly well-organized front page and turn it into another ugly obnoxious "LOOK AT ME!" trendy eyesore?
↑ I really like it. Its very easy to use and navigate.
↓ the ipod looking story links should be accessed by rolling across them not with the slide bar. anyone older than dirt won't be able to figure them out and will think the page doesn't work.
↑ Been a long time coming, but this is state of the art, beautiful, and functional
↓ Too busy. Too many "list" formats. Too many columns.
↑ It is a joy to navigate through, very intuitive, love the combination of purple with relief of grey text on white background - very easy on the eyes. I was able to find everything I looked for. Bottomline - beautiful and works great!

I was the 03′ class at the UW and we weren’t privileged to have a beautiful website like this. I love this new design because the website redefines the image of the university – from boring textbook to creative and imaginative institution.
Great job on the new design!

The new website is visually too busy. Those floating icons are too much.

It looks like part of the browser navigation bar. Otherwise, I like the overall design and not having to guess or memorize what categories topics lie under. The new website is visually too busy. Those floating icons are too much.

Aesthetically, I find that tired blue color obnoxious, overdone and old-school; what ever happened to less is more? . Functionally, it is fine – it took me a while to find the directories and maps links but that’s just a matter of me becoming acquainted with the new layout. I read the design is patterned after Barack Obama’s Web site. All I can say is – Why?

To reinforce another’s perfect comment, bring in “classic view” option to this gimmicky “look at me” awful eyeball? eyesore. It hurts my eyes. Plus it’s ugly.

I had the same problem not being able to find the Search function? Did you add it when we screamed? It’s too small and discreet now. I would like it to be a little larger and more obvious as it was before….

Congrats on making a mobile phone style navigation scheme…too bad this is the web version which means it makes no sense to have a space saving navigation scheme where you cannot see half the stories you are trying to highlight. Also the containers below that are too undifferentiated and draw no interest to them what so ever.

Too busy?! What the heck are people talking about it?!

It wasn’t intuitive where the search was. It looks like part of the browser navigation bar. Otherwise, I like the overall design and not having to guess or memorize what categories topics lie under.

Where is the search function? Help!

How about giving us an option for “classic view,” in which we could access the previous design? I find the new design unusable.
