NIH Clinical Grand Rounds, from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., will now be available at the UW Health Sciences Center through a live, interactive broadcast. During 1998, the IAIMS Program, based in the Health Sciences Library, is subscribing to the broadcast, which is usually the second Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. Pacific time. It will be presented in the UW Medical Center Plaza Cafe conference rooms. Through a phone line, participants can ask questions of the speakers. Continuing medical education credits are available by filling out a form provided by NIH. In addition, each session will be videotaped and available at the library's Reserve Desk, although there is no CME credit for watching the videotapes. Dr. Michael Guralnick, professor of psychology and pediatrics and director of the Center on Human Development and Disability, was presented the 1997 Distinguished Research Award by The Arc of the United States at the group's national meeting in Salt Lake City in November. The award recognized Guralnick's extensive research on the social interactions and social integration of young children with developmental disabilities and his work on the effectiveness of early intervention. Guralnick was also honored by The Arc of Washington State and The Arc-King County at an award ceremony in December. The Arc is the country's largest voluntary organization committed to the welfare of all children and adults with mental retardation and their families. Dr. Kenneth Jaffe and Dr. George Kraft, professors of rehabilitation medicine, have been named to editorial posts. Jaffe, director of rehabilitation medicine at Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, has been named Congress editor of the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the journal of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and the American Adademy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Kraft, director of Electrodiagnostic Medicine Services at UW Medical Center, became an associate editor of Muscle & Nerve, the journal of the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, on Jan. 1. He also chairs the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
