Nancy Woods named to be School of Nursing's next dean Agriculture secretary cites need for more food-safety research New Pediatric Clinic opens at UW Medical Center-Roosevelt
The Gilbert S. Omenn Graduate Student Award for Academic Excellence has been established in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine as a lasting tribute to Dean Emeritus Omenn, who left the UW last year to accept a position as executive vice president of medical affairs at the University of Michigan. The endowed fund will support an annual award to a graduate student in public health who has demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to the field. Contributions have been made by academic and industry colleagues, including Amgen and the Kellogg Foundation. Omenn, who was also a professor of medicine and environmental health, led the School of Public Health for 15 years. The fund honors his tenure as dean and his dedication to solving societal and public health problems. ¶
