Eisenberg to speak at REI on backcountry injuries

UW Physicians sponsors a free series of health and fitness talks from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the REI main store, 222 Yale Ave. N, Seattle.

On Feb. 16, Presidents Day, Dr. Mickey Eisenberg, professor of medicine and director of the Emergency Medicine Service at UW Medical Center, will discuss "Backcountry Medicine: Handling Wounds, Breaks and Sprains on the Trail." The talk will include how to avoid and treat wounds, breaks, and sprains.

Eisenberg is an avid hiker and outdoorsman. He has worked extensively to give the public practical rescue skills, along with a better understanding of emergency response and medical care. He is the author of the recently published book, Life in the Balance (Oxford University Press, 1997), which traces attempts, from Biblical times to the present, to revive those whose hearts have faltered and breath has stopped. ¶
