Dr. Rodger Haggitt, professor of pathology and director of hospital pathology at UW Medical Center, is one of six speakers who will make presentations at a symposium later this month marking the 150th anniversary of the Department of Pathology at Harvard Medical School. The Harvard department and its five affiliated hospitals each selected one distinguished speaker who had done postgraduate work at that institution. Haggitt was selected by New England Deaconess Hospital. He will speak on "Neoplastic C Progression in Ulcerative Colitis."
Dr. Mickey Eisenberg's recent book, Life in the Balance: Emergency Medicine and the Quest to Reverse Sudden Death (Oxford University Press, 1997), was reviewed in the February issue of Discover magazine. The book covers the history of resuscitation attempts from Biblical times to the present, including medical experimentation with electricity and electric shock. The review, written by Shanti Menon, called the book "charmingly illustrated" and noted that it was a practical resource, as well, with a guide to CPR, a glossary and a checklist to evaluate community emergency medical services. Eisenberg is a UW professor of medicine and director of Emergency Medicine Services at UW Medical Center.
