The Holocaust and the Churches

The 28th International Scholars Conference on "The Holocaust and the Churches" will meet at the University of Washington from Saturday until next Tuesday. Some 200 scholars will gather to present papers and hear a talk by the Hon. David J. Scheffer, Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues, U.S. Department of State. Scheffer's talk, Genocide and the Challenges of International Justice, will be at 8 p.m. Saturday in the West Ballroom on the second floor of the HUB. Hubert Locke, dean emeritus of the UW Graduate School of Public Affairs, is the conference secretariat, and was instrumental in bringing the meeting to the campus. Some of the sessions are open to the public. Correction

Debra Friedman's first name was incorrectly spelled under her photograph in the Feb. 19 issue of University Week. Friedman was recently promoted to Associate Provost for Academic Planning. She is responsible for long- and short-term academic planning, including institutional accountability, three-campus coordination, oversight of the University Strategic Analysis Group, and enrollment planning. ¶

See new multimedia classrooms

Classroom Support Services is holding an open house for the nine new classrooms in the Electrical Engineering Building. These classrooms are located in the upper basement and contain the latest in educational technology. The dates and times are: noon until 3 p.m. or later as needed, Friday, Feb. 27, and 3:30­5 p.m., Tuesday, March 3. University Week welcomes questions from faculty and staff of the University of Washington regarding policies and practices of campus service units. Timely questions of broad campus interest will be given preference for publication. Questions should be brief. The published version of questions will be unsigned since it may be a compilation of questions from many sources. However, the answers will be signed by the appropriate department head.
