CASE WINNERS: The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has announced the winners of its regional competition for advancement professionals, and as usual the UW has brought home quite a few awards. Chosen from among entries from colleges and universities in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Alaska and six Canadian provinces, winners were honored at the CASE annual conference this week.

In writing, the winners were, Greg Orwig, a silver in news releases for "concrete canoe" and a bronze in news releases for "smogmobile"; Nancy Wick, a silver in features for "Seeing Red"; Jon Marmor a bronze in features for "Close Call"; and Tom Griffin, Nancy Wick and Jon Marmor, a grand gold in periodical team writing for articles in Columns.

In overall publication design, the winners were, Jo-Ann Sire, Lauren Fortune, Judy Robertson, Antoinette Wills and Leslie Wright, a grand gold for Report to Contributors; Dean Driskell and Anne Totoraitis, a gold for the Pacific Voices poster; Jo-Ann Sire and Anne Totoraitis, a gold for the Life and Times poster; Jo-Ann Sire, Dean Driskell and Anne Totoraitis, a gold for the Burke Museum exhibit promotion package; Sarah Conradt and Anne Totoraitis, a silver for the Elms brochure; Jo-Ann Sire, John Linse and Judy Robertson, a silver for Voices; Jo-Ann Sire, David Wu, Maggie Keech and Tracey Hinkle, a silver for the Distinguished Achievement Award invitation; Jo-Ann Sire, Lauren Fortune, John Linse, Judy Robertson, Renee Fricke and Leslie Wright, a silver for Passport to Campus; Ken Shafer, a bronze for Columns; Jo-Ann Sire and Judy Robertson, a bronze for the Husky Marching Band CD and John Linse, Jo-Ann Sire and Judy Robertson a bronze for the basketball season subscription brochure.

In individual design, the winners were, Dean Driskell and Anne Totoraitis a silver for the UW Libraries' Artist Images bookmark; John Linse, Jo-Ann Sire and Anne Totoraitis, a bronze for La Rivista, Dean Driskell and Maggie Keech, a bronze for the College of Engineering annual fund brochure; Dean Driskell and Maggie Keech, a bronze for the Center for the Humanities dinner invitation; and Dean Driskell and Judy Robertson, a bronze for the Suzzallo Society invitation.

In illustrations, Christopher Baldwin took a bronze for "writer's bloc." In individual photographs, Jon Marmor won a bronze for "All in the Family." In photo essays or stories, Jo-Ann Sire, Lauren Fortune, Jeff Zaruba and Leslie Wright won a gold for Report to Contributors.

In other categories, the winners were, Lauren Fortune, a silver in annual reports for Report to Contributors; Nancy Joseph, a silver in fundraising booklets, brochures, fliers and folders for the College of Arts and Sciences' fundraising booklet; Tom Griffin, Jon Marmor and Ken Shafer, a silver in magazines over 20,000 circulation for Columns; Lauren Fortune, Margie Slovan, Antoinette Wills, John Linse and Leslie Wright, a silver in newsletters for Vistas; and Colleen Ponto and Zaheeda Ramji, a bronze in alumni relations for the Arbor Day Fair. ¶
