Dr. Michael Soules, professor of obstetrics and gynecology and director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology, has been selected to became president of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), a 15,000-member organization devoted to promoting the study of reproduction and reproductive disorders. The ASRM, established in 1944, publishes its own journal, Fertility and Sterility, and is the second largest society in obstetrics and gynecology. Soules will serve on the Executive Committee for five years and will be the president in 2001. His main responsibility will be to advance knowledge and expertise in reproductive medicine and biology. Dr. Anita Hendrickson, professor and chair of the Department of Biological Structure and professor of ophthalmology, has been awarded the 1998 Paul Kayser International Award of Merit in Retina Research by the Retina Research Foundation. She was commended for "her research into the organization and development of the primate visual system under normal and abnormal conditions."
