Parking Validation Coupon Program
The Validation Coupon Program, begun by Parking Services last autumn, became effective April 1: Now only validation coupons are honored for outbound parking fee refunds; departmental commuter tickets (DCTs) are honored only upon entrance. This UW Parking Validation Coupon program is not related to the UWMC patient & visitor to UWMC patient validation program at the Triangle Garage. Parking Services introduced the lower-cost validation coupons fall quarter for departments wishing to pay the parking fees of their campus guests and visitors. The department's appropriate budget number is charged when a parking permit with validation coupon is presented for refund at a campus gatehouse. The departmental budget is charged only the actual amount of the parking fee. For detailed information on the Validation Coupon Program refer to the following Web address: http://www.washington.edu/admin/parking/arrange.html

Student employee tax changes
Wages paid to student employees are generally exempt from Social Security and Medicare taxes. Due to a recent change in the tax laws, the number of credits required to qualify for this exemption has changed.

For undergraduate students, the number of credits went from seven to six. This will mean that some students who were previously assessed Social Security and Medicare taxes are now being excluded. This change was effective with the payroll paid on Feb. 25.

The law also changes the requirements for graduate and professional students. For both of these categories, the minimum unit requirements were increased. Graduate students will be exempt from Social Security and Medicare taxes if they are taking at least five credits (up from four).

Professional students will be exempt from Social Security and Medicare taxes if they are taking at least six credits (up from four). These changes will take place spring quarter (payroll paid April 10).

Student employees in these categories should consider this increased credit requirement when registering (adding or dropping) for spring quarter.
