The Student Public Health Association at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine has scheduled two events to mark National Public Health Week, April 6 to 12. A special seminar to kick off the week is planned from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Monday, April 6, in room T-747 of the Health Sciences Center. "Public Health: The University and Beyond. How Do We Make Healthy People in Healthy Communities a Reality?" is the title. The presentation is open to everyone. The seminar includes a panel of speakers: Dr. Ann Marie Kimball of the UW, Jane Maxwell (see accompanying story), U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott, Dr. Clarence Spinger of the UW, Jack Thompson of the UW and Dr. Ann Vanderstoep, a child psychiatric epidemiologist. The student group is also sponsoring a workshop on "Building Healthy Communities" at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, in room T-473 of the Health Sciences Center. Presenters at the workshop will be Jeff Mero of the Washington State Hospital Association and Katharine Sanders of the Washington Health Foundation.
