Rehabilitation Medicines Lehmann Symposium features speaker on reimbursement June 19
Dr. John Melvin will deliver the keynote lecture, Payment for Inpatient Rehabilitation: 1998 Status, at the 13th annual Justus F. Lehmann Symposium, sponsored by the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. The symposium begins at 1 p.m., Friday, June 19, at the UW Waterfront Activities Center. Melvin will speak at 3:30 p.m. There is no charge for the event. Melvin is deputy chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Temple University and chair of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He is also vice president of medical affairs at Moss Rehab Hospital. A strong advocate of comprehensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation, Melvin has done pioneering research on the use of sensory nerve conduction studies to diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome and on the importance of functional assessment of a patient as a predictor of resource use in rehabilitation hospitals. The Justus F. Lehmann Symposium is sponsored each year by the department to honor its former chair, who led the department from its founding in 1957 until 1986. In addition to the keynote lecture by Melvin, the symposium will feature short presentations of research work by residents, fellows and junior faculty members, followed by a reception and poster presentations.
