First-year med student author of JAMA paper on physician discipline
A student who has just completed her first year at the UW School of Medicine is the first author of a study published June 17 in JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association. Christine E. Dehlendorf was accepted to medical school but deferred commencing her studies for a year, in order to accept a research fellowship at the Public Citizens Health Research Group in Washington, D.C., a consumer organization headed by Dr. Sidney M. Wolfe, who is co-author of the study. During her year in Washington, D.C., Dehlendorf analyzed issues in the national health care system, including the issue of physicians disciplined for sex-related offenses. The study led to a 10,000-word report, which was accepted by JAMA as one of two articles on the issue of physician discipline. JAMA also had an editorial in the June 17 issue on physician discipline. Dehlendorf is an honors graduate in biology from Stanford University. ¶ University Week The faculty and staff publication of the University of Washington uweek@u.washington.edu June 25, 1998
