Help win the fight against breast cancer by participating in “Take a Hike,” 9:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, at Tiger Mountain in Issaquah. The five-mile hike will benefit the UW Breast Cancer Research Fund and Expedition Inspiration Breast Cancer Fund based, in Ketchum, Idaho. Participants will be transported from Bellevue Community College to the start of the trail. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the hike. The cost is $20 with early registration and $25 on the day of the hike. Participants who receive a minimum of $100 in pledges will receive a T-shirt and have the opportunity to place tribute flags in the name of a loved one at the top of the mountain. Early registration forms are available at REI stores, QFC stores, and other locations. For more information on how to participate or become a sponsor, call 543-2901.

“Nutrition Tips for Maximizing Your Outdoor Performance” is a free talk to be given from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at the REI store in downtown Seattle. Join registered dietitians Barbara Fromm, Karyn Schmidt and Tom Forestieri from Harborview Medical Center as they discuss how proper diet can help you get the most from outdoor activities. Topics will include nutrition, hydration and electrolytes, and supplements.
