Dentistry schedules Research Day ’98

The latest in clinical and basic research at the School of Dentistry will be highlighted during Research Day 1998, Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Health Sciences Center, room T-639 and the Health Sciences Lobby.

The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Leroy Hood, professor and founding chair of the UW Department of Molecular Biotechnology. Hood will speak on “The Human Genome Project: A Rosetta Stone for Biology and Medicine.” His talk is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.

A pioneer in human genome research, Hood moved to the UW from the California Institute of Technology in 1992. He holds the William Gates III Endowed Chair in Biomedical Sciences. Hood has played an instrumental role in launching and promoting the Human Genome Project, the 15-year, $3 billion effort to map the genes that provide the blueprint for the human body.

Following the keynote address, scheduled events for the day include oral presentations from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a poster session in the Health Sciences Lobby from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oral presentations will highlight the theme: “Focus on the Child as a Means of Achieving Lifelong Oral Health.”
