Board of Regents

The UW Board of Regents meeting, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in the Walker Ames Room of Kane Hall. The Regents will meet in formal session to take official action on personnel appointments and changes, gifts and grants, contracts and agreements with outside agencies and other University business.

Association for Women in Science

Jan D’Arcy, author of Speak Without Fear and Technically Speaking: A Guide for Communicating Complex Information, will present Dynamic Public Speaking Without Fear at the October meeting of the Seattle Area Chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) from 7:30­9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Auditorium, 2725 Montlake Blvd East. AWIS will also join with the UW Department of Biochemistry to present a Career Panel from 7:30­9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 in K-069 HSC.     Center for Urban Horticulture

    Master Gardener Training

    Join the team of Master Gardeners who are specially trained to share their horticulture knowledge with the general public by providing the most current, non-biased information on non-toxic gardening techniques, including pest management, composting, water quality and community food gardening. To apply to join the 1999 class, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to WSU Cooperative Extension King Co. Master Gardeners, 700 Sixth Ave. Suite 3700, Seattle, WA 98104-5037. If you would like more information, call Dial Extension at 296-DIAL and request tape #113. Training begins in January and continues for 10 weeks. It is free, but there is a $25 materials fee. Master Gardeners are expected to give 100 hours of volunteer time over a two-year period.

    Study Subjects Wanted

    Seeking subjects aged 18­40 with physician-diagnosed asthma to participate in a research study. The study requires breathing sulfur dioxide for 10 minutes while walking on a treadmill, simple breathing tests, and giving a sample of cells from the inside of the cheek. One visit lasting 45­60 minutes. Compensation: $20. Contact: Jane Koenig at 543-2026 or Debra Winterton at 685-1596.

    Grant Services Open House

    The Grants & Funding Information Services will hold an open house 3­5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20 in the 5th Floor Suzzallo Conference Room.     Data Entry Service Closes

    The School Of Fisheries is closing its Data Entry Services on Friday, Oct. 30 after 34 years of service. It has been a pleasure serving all campus departments and students.

    Arboretum Plant Sales

    The Arboretum offers plants for sale year round, but especially in the spring and summer. Propagated plants are sold 10 a.m.­2 p.m., Tuesdays year round in the Pat Calvert Greenhouse. Donated Plants are sold 10 a.m.­2 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 28, in the Plant Donations Department.

    Blood Pressure Screening

    Have your blood pressure tested 11 a.m.­1 p.m., on first Wednesdays of the month at the Faculty Club or 11 a.m.­1 p.m. Fridays at Hall Health Primary Care Center.
