Mailing Services allows personal mail until USPS boxes secured

Local officials from the United States Postal Service (USPS) recently reported that the master key to street mailboxes has been stolen and copied, giving numerous thieves access to the mail. The USPS has told the public not to put mail, especially payments, in the blue mailboxes until they are secured.

In the meantime, UW Mailing Services will assist the campus community by suspending the “No Personal Mail” policy. If you would like to use campus mail to send bills or other items that might otherwise be subject to theft, please do so by placing this mail with your department’s stamped mail or in the UW brown boxes designated for outgoing USPS mail.

Please assist Mailing Services by observing its requirement of banding University mail separately by budget number into the following categories:

  • Campus
  • Domestic Letters
  • Domestic Flats
  • International
  • Special Service
  • USPS Stamped

Mailing Services is pleased that it is able to offer this service to the University community.

The USPS expects their street mailboxes to be secured in four to six weeks. The campus will be notified when the USPS has reassured us that this situation has been rectified. Please contact Mailing Services at (206) 543-8757 or mailserv@u.washington.edu regarding any mailing issues. ¶
