Additional Information:
Many UW employees recently received a mailing reminding them of the new Long-Term Care plan.
Enclosed with the mailing was a list of agents and brokers authorized to sell the HCA/PEBB John Hancock Long Term Care policy. Employees, retirees & dependents do not need to use an insurance agent to purchase the long term care product. There are excellent resources available through informational materials and by contacting the Hancock Co. directly. Hancock representatives will be at all three UW Benefits Fairs.
Most state employee insurance enrollment is administered by the HCA or the employer. However the legislation enabling the offering of LTC provided that insurance agents should have access to sell and be compensated for selling the LTC product to state employees. Employees can use one of the listed agents if they wish, or enroll directly with Hancock.
In addition to the LTC presentation at the HUB Benefits Fair on Oct. 29, additional presentations are being coordinated at other locations for the first week of November. Times and locations will be announced later this week. These presentations are by a representative of the SHIBA program (Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors), of the Office of the State Insurance Commissioner.
There is also an LTC comparison chart available, which was prepared by SHIBA. This compares the Hancock product to one offered by TIAA-CREF. The TIAA-CREF LTC product is also available on an individual basis to higher education employees, their dependents, and to UW retirees, but does require a health screening. You can request the comparison chart by sending an email to benefits@u.washington.edu. ¶
