The Motor Pool rental rates

Effective November 1, 1998, Motor Pool vehicle rental rates are adjusted annually to reflect the cost of operations, new vehicle acquisition, and vehicle maintenance. These new rates have been approved by the Central Administration Budget Office.

The Motor Pool is a self-sustaining organization and rental rates are set at a level that assures recovery of the cost of doing business. Mileage rates are adjusted based on a projection of cost per mile, labor, fuel, outside repairs and parts. The daily rates are adjusted based on the number of vehicles operated per vehicle category and depreciated during the year.

The daily rate rose only slightly in most common vehicle categories such as sedans, compacts and most vans since there was a corresponding increase in the ratio of new vehicles in each class. However, in several specialty vehicle categories (Suburbans and 15 passenger vans), there was a significant increase in the cost of new vehicles and the depreciation is proportionately higher. This year’s rates were impacted by several factors: A 200 percent increase in the amount of collision damage repair, a 10percent increase in the number of new vehicles in the fleet, and an increase in expense costs for maintenance shop overhead and supplies (this includes hazardous material management / disposal and waste tire fees). The mileage rates have also increased due to a reduction in the overall number of miles driven.

In addition to the change in rental rates, the Motor Pool has established a new insurance fee of $1 per day per rental. This fee will create a fund to pay for vehicle damages and replace the previous policy of recharging collision damage back to the respective departments.
