How can we ever thank you? A Distinguished Staff nomination is one way

UW employees are invited to nominate their colleagues for the 1999 Distinguished Staff Award, a $3,000 award to be given to up to five outstanding staff employees. This is the third year of the awards and they will be presented at the University’s annual recognition event, to be held June 10, along with the Distinguished Teaching and Outstanding Public Service awards.

All permanent staff employees at Seattle, Bothell, Tacoma, campuses, Harborview and all off-campus sites are eligible if they work 50 percent or more, have been employed at least six months and are employed on the nomination closing date.

Employees should look for the following qualities in those they nominate:

  • Superior sustained or special one-time contribution to the mission of the unit or the University,
  • Exceptional creativity and innovation,
  • Superior responsiveness in delivering services to the unit’s clients,
  • Clear dedication to high standards in his/her own work and in that of others, and
  • Continuous contribution to a positive work environment.

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, Feb. 10. Nomination packets, which include examples of each of the selection criteria, are available on the Web at http://www.washington.edu/admin/personnel/dsaward. Nominations require a one-page nomination letter with three supporting one-page letters. Application packets with nomination or supporting letters longer than one page will be returned and not considered. Two of the supporting letters must be from a co-worker, supervisor, a UW affiliate, student, peer or faculty.

Staff members previously nominated are eligible to be nominated again. However, previous recipients are no longer eligible.

Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 to be considered. Send the completed form, your nominating letter, and the three supporting letters to:

    Distinguished Staff Award, Box 357925

or hand deliver by 5 p.m. on Feb. 10 to:

Jennifer Annable, Experimental Education Unit, Room 101 (single-story building directly behind UW Hospital Emergency Room).

Additional information is included on the Web site. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Annable, Distinguished Staff Award Committee chair, at 543-4011 or e-mail dsaward@u.washington.edu. ¶
