Safety Classes

    Library Computer Classes
    The UW Libraries provide computer training in subjects ranging from introductory classes such as “Finding Articles” and “Catalog Overview” to specialized classes in Engineering and Life Sciences “Database” search techniques. The classes are free and attendance is limited to UW students, faculty and staff unless noted.

    Diabetes Research Study
    The UW is seeking volunteers aged 30 to 75 with diabetes for a study testing the potential of a new diabetes medication. Volunteers must not be taking any medication for diabetes. The study will involve seven clinic visits during a three-month period. Subjects will receive free physical examinations and lab tests and be compensated for their time.     Heart Disease Study
    Do you have heart disease? The Northwest Lipid Research Clinic at the UW is conducting a 5-year study to see if lowering cholesterol below current guidelines will help reduce heart attack risk. Participants receive free cholesterol medication, physical exams, EKGs and diet counseling. For information, please call Alice at 206 731-3049.

    Midlife Cholesterol Study
    The UW Division of Endocrinology is seeking female volunteers aged 47 to 55, who are still having menstrual periods, to join a study of heart disease risk and menopause. Women will receive CAT scans, bone density scans and blood cholesterol measurements and then will be followed through menopause. Volunteers cannot be taking estrogen, contraceptive pills or cholesterol lowering medications. For more information, call the Midlife Cholesterol Study at (206) 543-8213.

    , to be Associate Professor (with tenure) and Associate Director for Research and Program Development in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science (Dr. Bruce is currently a Senior Lecturer and Acting Head of the Department of Information Studies at the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia).

(Dr. Wilson is currently holder of the James N. and Nancy J. Farley Professorship of Manufacturing and Entrepreneurship in Mechanical Engineering at Northwestern University.)
