Deadlines Grant Proposals Feb. 12 is the deadline for receipt of proposals at Grant and Contract Services for proposals due on March 1 at the awarding agency. Academic Opportunity Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute invites applications from the University of Washington for its Small Grants Research Awards. Proposed research must be in alcohol or drug abuse-related fields. The maximum amount considered for funding is $20,000. Application deadline is 5 p.m., March 15. Questions concerning suitability of a potential project should be directed to the Institute at 543-0937. Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute Other Rate Increase The Department of Labor and Industries has announced a rate increase for Medical Aid, the State of Washingtons Workers Compensation Program. Effective with the payroll of Jan. 1-15, 1999 (paid on Jan. 25), payroll deductions have increased from 0.04130 to 0.04450 per hour for a maximum of 80 hours per semi-monthly pay period. Therefore, for full-time employees, the typical Medical Aid deduction increased from $3.30 to $3.56 per pay period. Payroll Office Notification of Inspection The University has received a report from the State Department of Health (DOH) regarding their inspection in October 1998 of the use of radioactive materials in University programs. Items cited in the report are in the less serious category of infractions. There were two infractions described in the 1998 State Department of Health Inspection Report. A reply to this report will be returned to DOH. More information is available from the Radiation Safety Office, Environmental Health and Safety, Hall Health Center, 543-0463.
