Dr. H. Richard Winn, professor and chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery and adjunct professor of physiology and biophysics, will receive the 1999 Grass Foundation Award from the Society of Neurological Surgery. An expert in cerebral blood flow, Winn was chosen unanimously by the selection committee for his research contributions to science and to academic neurosurgery. Winn has received continuous funding from the NIH since 1974 and has held two RO-1 grants for more than 20 years, the longest term for grants held by a neurosurgeon in the country. The award includes a gold medal, $10,000 and a leather-bound book filled with reprints of his original publications. The award will be presented at the society’s annual meeting, which will take place in Colorado Springs in May. Laura Landro, Wall Street Journal senior editor, former bone marrow transplant patient and author of the book Surviror: Taking Control of Your Fight Against Cancer, will give a free lecture on “Using the Medical Information Revolution to Help in Your Fight Against Cancer” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23, in Pelton Auditorium at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, South Lake Union. For more information or reservations, call the Hutchinson Center at 667-4399.
