Free conference on hearing loss scheduled for March 6 on campus Ears, Hearing and Beyond is the subject of the third annual free public conference on hearing loss, Saturday, March 6, in the HUB Auditorium on campus. The daylong event is sponsored by the UWs Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center and the Lions District 19B Hearing Conservation Foundation. The conference is for people interested in learning more about prevention of hearing loss, coping strategies for hearing loss, and the latest research. Speakers will cover such topics as hearing aids, assistive listening devices and cochlear implants, focusing on both adult and childhood hearing loss. This conference promises to be an informative day offering the latest information on hearing loss and current research, said Dr. George A. Gates, UW professor and director of the Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center. An FM hearing system will be available in the auditorium, and all presentations will be accompanied by real-time captioning. Those attending will receive written summaries of all talks. Doors open at 8:15 a.m. and the conference begins at 9 a.m. The exhibit room will be open all day with approximately 20 exhibitors, including hearing aid, cochlear implant and assistive listening device manufacturers.
