Good Housekeeping lists cancer specialists named in poll Two School of Medicine faculty members who practice at UW Medical Center were named among the top cancer specialists for women in a new poll commissioned by Good Housekeeping magazine and published in the March 1999 issue, currently on newsstands. Good Housekeeping asked more than 260 department chairs and section chiefs at major medical centers across the country to nominate the top specialists for particular types of cancer in women. They were asked, In your opinion, which specialists provide the most expert treatment and are the leading clinicians for lung, breast and colon cancer in women? To eliminate bias, the respondents were not allowed to recommend anyone at their own institutions. The magazine lists the 318 doctors most frequently cited. Dr. Robert B. Livingston, professor of medicine and medical oncologist, was named in two areas, lung cancer medical oncology and breast cancer medical oncology. Dr. Douglas Wood, associate professor of surgery, was named in lung cancer surgery. ¶ University Week The faculty and staff publication of the University of Washington uweek@u.washington.edu February 25, 1999
