Dr. Loren Engrav, professor and chief of the Department of Surgery’s Division of Plastic Surgery, has been selected to receive the American Burn Association’s most prestigious award, the Harvey Stewart Allen Award for Lifetime Achievement in Burn Care. Engrav has been associate director of the UW Burn Center at Harborview since 1977, when he came to the UW to head the plastic surgery division. Working with Dr. David Heimbach, professor of surgery and director of the Burn Center, who received the same award in 1995, Engrav has consistently improved the outcomes for burn victims by developing better techniques of skin grafting, among other advances. The two professors are authors of the text, Surgical Management of the Burn Wound. Engrav will receive the honor this month at the American Burn Association annual meeting in Orlando. Communications seminars offered this quarter by the Health Sciences Center for Educational Resources include a new, advanced section for Photoshop 4, a session on quality graphics output from computer files, and a free seminar on instructional technology. Each session costs $35. To register, call 685-1186.
