Pain management lecture scheduled March 16 As part of the UW’s participation in National Brain Awareness Week, a lecture entitled “The Reign of Pain is Mainly in the Brain: Self-Management of Pain” will be given by Dr. Samuel F. Dworkin, UW professor of oral medicine and psychiatry. Dworkin’s lecture, free and open to the public, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, in room T-435 of the Health Sciences Center. “Pain is complicated,” said Dworkin. “Thinking, emotions, behavior and our own past history influence whether we experience pain and whether we can self-manage it.” The lecture is sponsored by the School of Nursing, Dr. Eric Chudler of the School of Medicine’s Department of Anesthesiology, and Health Sciences and Medical Affairs News and Community Relations. An Open House for invited students from area schools will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, in the Health Sciences Lobby.
