List of Distinguished Staff nominees shows varied workforce Thirty-nine UW staff employees and two teams were nominated for the third annual Distinguished Staff Awards, given to as many as five outstanding staff members and teams. The honor includes a $3,000 cash award. Recipients of the awards will be announced spring quarter. President Richard L. McCormick will present the awards at the June recognition dinner . Staff members from the Seattle, Bothell and Tacoma campuses were eligible. “Although only five employees or teams can be recipients of the cash award each year, all of the staff nominated are exceptional and deserving of recognition,” said Weldon Ihrig, executive vice president. Nominees had to demonstrate the following characteristics: Superior sustained or special one-time contribution to the mission of their unit or the University; exceptional creativity and innovation; superior responsiveness in delivering service to clients; clear dedication to high standards in his/her own work and in that of others; and continuous contribution to a positive work environment. Jennifer Annable, principal of the Experimental Education Unit, and chair of the Distinguished Staff Awards committee, said, “We are very appreciative of the faculty, staff and students who wrote letters of support for these nominees. Their efforts have provided us with an outstanding pool of applicants. My hope is that in future years even more members of the university community will participate in recognizing the contributions of our staff, and we will have even more nominees.” The 1999 Distinguished Staff Award nominees are: Kenneth R.
