PSR student chapter meeting in Seattle this weekend

Students from more than 29 medical schools will gather in Seattle April 9 to 11 for an international meeting of the student chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility. Members of the Washington state student chapter planned the conference.

The conference will cover nuclear weaponry and security, violence and environmental health issues. It will also offer students and physicians workshops on how to participate fully in civic life. Local and national activists, and two UW medical students, will be among the presenters.

UW medical student Jessica Stanton will give a workshop on gun violence prevention. She will talk about a Seattle effort in which attorneys, medical students and police work together to educate fifth graders about handgun injuries. UW medical student Emily Culbert will moderate a panel on domestic violence. Second-year medical student Jennifer Rupert is the conference coordinator.

A schedule and registration form are on the Web at http://www.psr.org/spsrconf.htm
