Albert W. Black, Jr., senior lecturer in sociology, won this years Charles E. Odegaard Award at the Educational Opportunity Program banquet last Thursday at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. The award, started in 1973, is given to a faculty or community member whose work has supported equal opportunity in higher education for minority and economically disadvantaged students. Black joined the UW in 1972. His special interests include race and ethnic relations, stratification, social movements, and race and poverty. Eight student award winners also were honored at the annual dinner for their records of academic and personal achievement. Former Seattle Mayor Norm Rice and his wife, Constance, chaired this years event. ¶
