UW Executive Vice President Weldon Ihrig, far right, holds a $6.5 million check representing the amount of money Seattle City Light has contributed to energy efficient lighting improvements and new technology at the UW since 1991. The UW has kicked in a matching amount. The result: The UW saves nearly $2 million a year on its electrical bills and benefits from standardized maintenance practices and reduced ongoing maintenance costs.
