Dr. David Wands, an alumnus and former faculty member at the UW School of Dentistry, has established an endowment fund for a graduate prosthodontics fellowship. A current gift of $100,000 will be matched by the State of Washington and Wands has earmarked $300,000 to be donated as a bequest, for a total of $500,000.

The David H. Wands Fellowship in Graduate Prosthodontics will support recruiting outstanding scholars and clinicians to the program and encourage recipients to pursue academic careers in prosthodontics (replacement teeth and related structures).

Wands earned a master’s degree in dentistry and certificate in prosthodontics from the UW School of Dentistry in 1972, after receiving his dentistry degree with honors from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 1967. After practicing for more than 25 years, he is now retired in Olympia.

He said that he created the fellowship, in part, “to show my genuine appreciation for the excellent quality of prosthodontic education that I received at the UW.”

“We greatly appreciate Dr. Wands’ investment in the future of prosthodontic training at the dental school,” said Dr. Paul B. Robertson, dean of dentistry. “This support will allow us to continue offering top-quality education and assist students in realizing their goals.”

Dr. Keith Phillips, assistant professor and director of the program, said, “The Wands Fellowship will assure the future excellence of the program by enabling us to be more competitive in recruiting the very best students into the program.” ¶
