Sound Transit is drilling for soil borings on campus along 15th Avenue Northeast to determine the soil conditions that will be encountered when they bore the tunnel for the transit system. The current proposed route crosses Portage Bay and moves north along 15th Avenue Northeast. The tunnel would be more than 200 feet deep near the UW. Commuters will use elevators at two stations to reach the transit, one at Northeast Pacific Street and 15th Avenue Northeast, and the other at 15th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 45th Street.
