Neurological Assn. meeting in Seattle October 10-13

Several UW faculty members will be among the speakers when Seattle hosts the 124th Annual Meeting of the American Neurological Association Oct.10-13. The meeting will take place at the Seattle Westin.

Among the UW presenters listed in the preliminary program are Dr. Donald Patrick, professor of health services, who will discuss “Measuring Health Related Quality of Life in Neurological Conditions;” Dr. Richard Deyo, professor of medicine, who will talk on “Treatment Outcomes for Sciatica: Defining Probabilities for Doctors and Patients;” and Dr. David Tirschwell, acting instructor in neurology, who will speak on “Administrative Data, Co-Morbidity and Survival After Stroke.”

The scientific program also will include a public policy forum on translational research, functional neuroimaging, approaches to neurogenerative diseases and advances in neurological therapeutics.

Dr. Bruce Ransom, professor and chair of neurology, and Dr. Christina Marra and Dr. Stephen Tapscott, both associate professors of neurology, will be inducted as members of the American Neurological Association.

Dr. Phillip Swanson, professor of neurology, chairs the local arrangements committee. The committee includes Dr. Thomas Bird and Dr. Donald Farrell, both professors of neurology, and Dr. George Ojemann, professor of neurological surgery.
