Teaching the teachers Steve Gygi, right, a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Ruedi Aebersold, professor of molecular biotechnology, spent a week this summer mentoring high school science teachers Don Foster from Tacoma, left, and Susan Hauenstein from Stanwood, center. The teachers were working on protein analysis as part of their participation in the Science Education Partnership (SEP), based at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The SEP, which receives substantial funding from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, relies on the involvement of several mentoring sites, including molecular biotechnology and genetics labs at the UW, Immunex and ZymoGenetics, as well as the Hutchinson Center.
