“How to Hit the Slopes Safely: Preparing is Prevention” is a free talk to be given from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at the REI store in downtown Seattle. The Healthy-U health and fitness talks are sponsored by UW Physicians. Topics for skiers and snowboarders include proper conditioning and fitness, equipment preparation and general safety, injury prevention, and surviving the elements, especially in avalanche and extreme weather conditions. Presenters are Dr. Eric Larson, medical director of UW Medical Center and of the Stevens Pass medical advisory group; John Meriwether, ski patrol director at Stevens Pass; and Lori Sabado, physical therapist at the UW Sports Medicine Clinic. No registration is necessry.

Communication classes offered this quarter by the Health Sciences Center for Educational Resources include a free seminar, Introduction to Instructional Teleconferencing, for faculty and teaching assistants on Nov. 17. Other classes include Photoshop 1,2 and 3; output from graphics files, Web development, PowerPoint and PowerPoint for multimedia. Most classes are $35 each.
